Drinks with TeaVendor: Green Tea Basil Mocktail

Dry January continues here at TeaVendor! Today we have an aromatic and taste bud tingling Green Tea Basil Mocktail using Gunpowder Green tea from our friends over at Young Mountain Tea. This herbaceous mocktail is a treat for the senses without the buzz. Below you can find the recipe, as well as link to our other mocktail blog for our Mock Tea Cosmopolitan recipe!



Green Tea And Basil Mocktail  

Ingredients for the Basil Syrup:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup basil leaves

Ingredients for the Cocktail:

  • 1 egg white (optional)
  • 2 oz freshly brewed Green tea
  • ¾ oz Basil Syrup
  • ¾ oz fresh lemon juice
  • ½ oz pineapple juice
  • Basil leaf, for garnish 

Basil Syrup Directions:

  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, add in the sugar, water, and basil. Once boiling, reduce the heat and allow to simmer for 1 minute.
  2. Remove from heat and allow it to steep, covered, for 30 minutes.
  3. Using a strainer, strain the mixture into a resealable container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Cocktail Directions:

  1. In a cocktail shaker, add ice followed by the egg white (if using), green tea, basil syrup, lemon juice, and pineapple juice.
  2. Shake until chilled.
  3. Strain into a coupe glass and garnish with a basil leaf.
